About Me

I have worked as an actor over the last thirty-five plus years splitting my time between NYC, North Carolina and Los Angeles, where I currently reside.

It was during my stint in North Carolina, while under the tutelage of the marvelous Mike Dellerman that I discovered my passion for the art of photography. This was fifteen years ago and I have been very fortunate during that time to cross paths with a number of muses that have helped me to expand my craft. My older brother, master photographer Craig J. Barber, is certainly one of these inspirations. My journey has most recently brought me to the Photography Department at L.ACC in Los Angeles, where I've have struck artistic gold with the influence of Professors Daniel Marlos and Nicole Belle.

My passions have led me over the last couple of years to the wonderments of black and white film analog photography. My cameras of choice are the Nikon FM2 35mm and the Mamiya RZ67 120 medium format. When shooting digital, I use the Canon 6d.

I have been graced with a full and wonderful life. In addition to photography, I enjoy cooking a good meal, hiking Runyon Canyon, watching a Malibu sunset with my beautiful wife and taking in a baseball game.

My Philosophy

The lens of the camera captures and preserves life's richest moments. It is a truly magical device that has the capacity to bring to life images that the naked eye sometimes misses, framing our experiences and awakening our senses to a more profound level. I have experienced this frequently as I sat back and viewed the images taken from my many trips crossing this majestic country; beauty that reveals itself in retrospect.

I prefer shooting my subjects with natural light. I find that it reveals a quality that is more authentic and genuine. At times, it can be a bit more challenging as it is a source that is constantly changing. That only adds to the excitement of the shoot as it brings a spontaneity and an energy akin to catching fireflies in a bottle on a warm summer eve.
